High speed plastic blow molding machine

Plastics engineering encompasses the processing, design, development, and manufacture of plastics products. A plastic is a polymeric material that is in a semi-liquid state, having the property of plasticity and exhibiting flow. The nature of plastic materials poses unique challenges to an engineer. Mechanical properties of plastics are often difficult to quantify, and the plastics engineer has to design a product that meets certain specifications while keeping costs to a minimum. Other properties that the plastics engineer has to address include; outdoor weatherability, thermal properties such as upper use temperature, electrical properties, barrier properties, and resistance to chemical attack.

In plastics engineering, as in most engineering disciplines, the economics of a product plays an important role. The cost of plastic materials ranges from the cheapest commodity plastics used in mass produced consumer products to the very expensive, specialty plastics. The cost of a plastic product is measured in different ways, and the absolute cost of a plastic material is difficult to ascertain. Cost is often measured in price per pound of material, or price per unit volume of material. In many cases however, it is important for a product to meet certain specifications, and cost could then be measured in price per unit of a property. Price with respect to processibility is often important, as some materials need to be processed at very high temperatures, increasing the amount of cooling time a part needs. In a large production run cooling time is very expensive.

Some plastics are manufactured from re-cycled materials but their use in engineering tends to be limited because the consistency of formulation and their physical properties tend to be less consistent. Electrical and electronic equipment and motor vehicle markets together accounted for 58 percent of engineered plastics demand in 2003.[1] Engineered plastics demand in the US was estimated at $9,702 million in 2007.

Blow molding

Blow molding (also known as blow moulding or blow forming) is a manufacturing process by which hollow plastic parts are formed. In general, there are three main types of blow molding: extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, and stretch blow molding. The blow molding process begins with melting down the plastic and forming it into a parison or preform. The parison is a tube-like piece of plastic with a hole in one end in which compressed air can pass through.

The parison is then clamped into a mold and air is pumped into it. The air pressure then pushes the plastic out to match the mold. Once the plastic has cooled and hardened the mold opens up and the part is ejected.

Molding Machine Specifications

Molding machines are used to produce molds to make items of various shapes. They are also referred to as injection molding machines. They can either be horizontally or vertically aligned. However, most of the available injection molding machines are horizontally aligned. Vertically aligned injection molding machines find applications in areas such as insert molding. They are used for the formation of thermoset polymers, plastic injection molding or metal injection molding. Modern molding machines have been computerized to ensure consistent output and quality.
Injection Unit
Molding machines consist of injection units which come with geometrically designed gas nitride screws whose main function is to increase the plasticizing capacity. This unit consists of phosphorus/ultra bronze brushes whose purpose is to ensure perfect alignment of the mold halves as well as improve lifespan of molds. These brushes come with a lubrication arrangement. The unit also consists of a pre-suck back function and a carriage for sprue breaking. The injection unit is also capable of additional movement so as to access the nozzle and mold. This is enabled by the manually operated electro-hydraulic control. The injection unit is designed to provide high precision and to make it possible for the complex parts to be reproduced.
Locking Units
The locking units consist of movable mold platens. It is resistant to heat and corrosion which allows it to achieve an extended lifespan and it has self-lubricating pins and bushing. The locking units have a double-toggle mold clamping. The locking force can either be adjusted or automated. The material used for the manufacture of locking units make it resistant to wear.
Clamping Unit
The clamping unit consists of a multiple stroke hydraulic ejector and ‘T’ slot platens for heavy duty molds. The force of the clamping unit can be adjusted to the maximum figure in accordance with the size of the mold. Hard chrome-plated tie rods are used for large diameters and they come with the clamping units. One of the main functions of the clamping unit is to provide the molding machine with the ability to open and close the mold during the molding process. It also allows for the ejection of the molded part to take place.
Hydraulic Unit
The hydraulic unit is easy to operate and also to maintain. It has valves mounted on the manifold block which can easily be accessed and allows for the minimization of any oil leaks. These valves help to save energy. The unit is equipped with an alarm for the notification of shutdown in cases when the hydraulic oil is overheated.

Disadvantages of Blow Molding

Blow molding is the process in which hollow, plastic containers are made. Air is blown into molds to form items such as thermoplastic bottles, tubing and milk jugs. While blow molding allows companies to manufacture high volumes of plastic containers, which are significantly cheaper than glass, there are a few disadvantages to the process. Some disadvantages include environmental hazards and a significant dependence on petroleum.
Environmental Disadvantages
Plastic products made by the process of blow molding aren’t biodegradable, which presents an obvious environmental hazard, especially when empty containers find their way to landfills. When disposed of in landfills, plastic products are buried and remain in the earth forever. Their oil-based material then becomes part of the soil and runs the risk of threatening plant life, animals and groundwater.
Dependence on Petroleum
Aside from the gasoline industry, plastic manufacturers depend on millions of gallons of petroleum in their quest to produce blow-molded products. Because oil is the most important agent in thermoplastics and blow molding is becoming more streamlined and automated, the process plays an ongoing threat on a diminishing world oil supply.
Process and Material Limitations
Although blow molding has been automated and can produce mass quantities of products, the process is largely limited to hollow forms. These forms are delicate and contain various thicknesses which must be precise, which often results in wasted material in the process of arriving at containers with proper dimensions and specifications. In some cases, thermoplastic is stretched to save on material, which can lead to substandard containers.

HDPE bottles cleaned by grinding dried, it can be blown directly

Q: HDPE bottles cleaned by grinding dried, blown it directly, you do not add other materials such as LLDPE and other additives
Answer 1: not good for injection molding, film out of the membrane surface do not light. To blow, and to raise better material or new material back to the job.
2: HDPE blown film recycled material is not. Because HDPE for the first time after blowing during a stretch-oriented, and long-term use. The internal molecular structure has been broken. There degradation phenomenon. Blow molding is a process of directed molecular orientation. Ask how the original structure of the molecular re-orientation of clutter it. So then I tell you add other material or new material the same time not blowing out. There will even be able to blow the uneven thickness, gloss differential, the surface roughness. Worth it!
3: HDPE can be blown. Granulation can not add any fillers, but only blowing plastic. The crushed grain is not uniform as long as there should be no problem, but I have not tried. I personally think that they do not under the influence of material should be no issues now.
4: The crushed material blown poor, resulting in blowing fine particles and then

Integrated Two Stage Blow Moulding Machine

In Integrated Two Stage approach the performs were made by more conventional injection moulding routes (with the number of cavities optimized to match the required output) and then, while still hot, were carried to a separate blowing machine with the optimized number of blow moulds to suit the required output. This was the first ‘integrated ‘approach to PET bottle making. Equipments developers took the ‘single-stage’ approach. Here the equipment had the same number of injection cavities as blowing moulds. This was a more compact approach and proved ideal for small batch output with excellent glossy surfaces.
